JBT U20s Secure Minor Premiership; Seniors Eye Grand Final Bet in Festive Cup Showdown
PORT MORESBY (January 5, 2026) — The Moresby North-East Rugby League (Mospals) 2025 Festive Cup off-season competition has reached a fever pitch, with the JBT (Junior Black Tigers, also known as JBT) emerging as the standout team of the U20s division after a dominant ten-round campaign.
The young Tigers exhibited superior consistency and skill throughout the season, earning them the prestigious title of Minor Premiers in the U20s category. Their exceptional performance ensures a strong position as they head into the sudden-death finals series with momentum and a psychological edge over their competitors.
The success extends to the club's senior team as well. JBT seniors finished the regular ten-round season in a respectable third place on the ladder. Their resilient run has earned them a crucial spot in the finals, setting the stage for a compelling title run.
As the competition shifts into high gear, both JBT teams are preparing for the toughest challenge yet. The road to the grand final is now firmly set on the finals path, with both the U20s and seniors aiming to convert their regular-season success into a championship title at the Mospals grand final day. The community is rallying behind the club, anticipating a strong push for silverware in both divisions.

Minaru Storms 2 out of 3 Finals Finish
A spirited afternoon of junior rugby league unfolded last Friday at Baruni Field as the Central Dabaris Junior League hosted another exciting round of competition. Supporters packed the sidelines, cheering loudly as young athletes showcased their growing talent and passion for the game. Among the standout clubs was Coach Allan’s Minaru Storms, who delivered a strong overall performance across three divisions.
The Under‑15 Storms opened the day with a tough match, falling short despite a determined effort and several promising plays. Their resilience set the tone for the older divisions, who took the field with renewed focus. The Under‑17 squad responded impressively, securing a well‑earned victory through disciplined defense and sharp attacking combinations. The momentum carried into the Under‑19 match, where the Storms sealed their second win of the day with confident ball movement and strong leadership on the field.
Coach Allan praised all three teams for their commitment, highlighting the importance of development and teamwork over individual results. Organizers also commended the Storms for their competitive spirit, noting that performances like these strengthen the pathway for young players within the Central Dabaris system. With more rounds ahead, the Minaru Storms look poised to continue building on their success and shaping future rugby league talent.
